Our Team
A “bluebird day” is a perfect kind of day, where there isn’t a cloud in the sky. The sunrise warms your face, and the clear skies warm your heart. It's the feeling we aim to bring you with every cup of our coffee.
Bluebird Day Coffee is the passion business of four friends who have known each other more than half our lives. Our business is focused on sharing the best coffee from the world’s top coffee regions. We grew up in Canada and are rooted here, but our roots and connections to Rwanda and Burundi allow us to bring our customers incredible coffee, not previously shared with this part of the world.
We have developed real relationships with the coffee producers and personal obligations of fairness and social responsibility. Our business supports farms and washing stations predominantly driven and operated by women from these communities. We are committed to our partnerships and are keen to see these families prosper.
We are part of a growing coffee community in Canada. If you are interested in learning more or discussing opportunities, please contact us.
Our Farms
Our coffee is grown and cultivated in the district of Karongi, on the Eastern Bank of Lake Kivu in the Western province of Rwanda.
The Coffee is grown at an elevation of 5900 - 6500 feet above sea level. The elevation and stable climate create the rich fruit flavours that you taste. The sun shines year-round, providing a subtropical cool climate, that is the perfect environment for coffee.
Our coffee is meticulously selected from a small group of farms. These farms are led by remarkable and resilient women that make up 80% of all workers.
Our Process
We purchase our green coffee beans directly from farmers who are trained in the growing methods of specialty coffee. We buy directly from the co-operatives and local farmers in Rwanda to ensure freshness and fairness. With our personal connection to the Country, boots on the ground, and a direct source to washing stations we can guarantee a great product at a great price.
Our beans shipped from our direct relationships on the ground in Africa. This ensures transparency and means we can offer Direct Trade. Once in Canada, we work closely with our wholesale partners and top roasters to ensure they are educated in the proper technique to draw the most out of our highly rated bean.
